Is Taupia really free?
Yes. Taupia is free for your household to use. You pay the providers you choose directly, and Taupia does not add a management fee to your bills. Taupia may receive commission from some providers when you set up or switch an eligible service.
Do all my housemates need Taupia?
Taupia works best when everyone in the house is invited, because bill responsibilities, shares and payment tracking are clearer when the household can see the same information.
Does Taupia pay our bills for us?
No. Taupia keeps your bills, responsibilities and shares organised, but your household still pays suppliers and housemates directly.
How does bill splitting work?
Your household adds a bill, sets the split rule, and Taupia works out each person's share. It also helps track who has paid and who still owes their share.
Who actually pays the supplier?
The named account holder or account holders pay the supplier directly. Taupia's tracking does not change the supplier account or who the supplier can chase if a bill is unpaid.
Can we use Taupia if we have already moved in?
Yes. You can use Taupia before you move, while you are setting up, or after you have already moved in and want to organise the bills you have.
What happens with council tax if everyone is a student?
Full-time students are usually disregarded for council tax, and a household made up only of full-time students is usually exempt. You still need to apply through your local council and follow its evidence process.
What if some bills are included in our rent?
Only add the bills your household is responsible for paying or tracking. If a bill is included in rent, keep your tenancy agreement handy and use Taupia for the bills you manage directly.
