Every bill split automatically
Splitwise style, and not forced into an equal share. Each housemate holds a percentage of a bill, the percentages total 100%, and each share is worked out from the real bill amount, so it updates when the bill does.
Huddle bundles a house's bills into one monthly payment for each housemate. Taupia shows every household bill and its provider, then switches energy, broadband or mobile once you approve.
Free. Give your address for provider quotes in about two minutes, or upload a bill you already have. Then you pay each provider directly and Taupia splits and runs it, with nothing bundled.

01How Huddle works, and what Taupia does
Huddle bundles a shared house's bills into one plan: electricity, gas, water, broadband and a TV Licence, with each housemate paying a monthly share set from a forecast. Its energy comes from Tru Energy, the licensed supplier Huddle works with under a white label agreement. Taupia sits between that and a comparison site, which prices one bill and hands the result back. Taupia is free and compares energy, broadband and mobile, with two ways in: give it your address and provider quotes come back in about two minutes, or upload the bills you have.
Either way you see the full list of what providers are offering. Taupia recommends one and shows why it picked that one, after a few questions about how the house lives, and nothing changes until you approve it. AI agents read each bill you upload for the tariff, usage, contract end date and any exit fee, while other agents watch the market against what you pay now.
Each bill then splits across the house on percentages totalling 100%, worked out from the real amount. Taupia flags renewal dates and reads TaupiaMail, a Taupia email address you give your providers or forward messages to. Water, council tax and TV Licence stay in view, though Taupia does not compare or switch them.

02Supplier account setup
A package divides the house for you and quotes one figure for it. Going direct keeps Taupia out of the supplier contract, so the division stays with the household. Here is what Taupia does with that, and where it stops.
01
Splitwise style, and not forced into an equal share. Each housemate holds a percentage of a bill, the percentages total 100%, and each share is worked out from the real bill amount, so it updates when the bill does.
02
So nobody in the house has to be the one who asks. Taupia allocates account-setup tasks, tracks completion, records and flags outstanding shares, and sends reminders while a share is outstanding. Everyone sees the same shares and who has settled. It does not move money: the housemates repay the person the bill is in the name of directly, outside Taupia, and the share reads as settled once it has been repaid.
03
A utility account is usually opened in one person's name. That one named account holder is who the supplier bills, and the obligation to the supplier stays theirs whoever in the house has paid their share. Taupia can send a request to add further people to the account, but the supplier decides. If a share is late, Taupia flags it and sends reminders. It never moves money between housemates, and nothing it records changes what the named holder owes the supplier.
03Huddle vs Taupia: pricing, liability and exit terms
Start with the everyday question: what can you see before you choose, and who stays in control when a bill changes? Open any row for the provider's exact words.
| The question that matters | Huddle | Taupia |
|---|---|---|
| How the monthly amount is built | Huddle A forecast payment, reconciled at the end, and raised if usage runs high.Their exact words Huddle sets each monthly payment in advance from a forecast of the energy the house is expected to use. At the end of the contract it reconciles your payments against actual usage: you settle any shortfall, and it refunds the difference if you used less. If usage runs, or looks likely to run, above the forecast, it can raise the monthly payment. Source huddle.uk.com Checked 13 October 2026 | Taupia Each provider's own rate on real usage. Taupia flags rises it reads. In Taupia's words You pay each provider its own published rate on what the house actually uses. Taupia reads every bill you upload, compares energy, broadband and mobile against what you pay now, and flags the price rises it reads. More on this How Taupia works |
| If someone misses a payment | Huddle Whoever submits the Order answers for all of it until the others accept.Their exact words Under clause 3.6, the housemate who submits the Order accepts responsibility for it in full, and Huddle can bill that person for all of it until the others accept the terms. A failed payment and a late payment can each add a £15 fee, and overdue sums carry interest. Source huddle.uk.com Checked 13 October 2026 | Taupia Percentage shares totalling 100%. Taupia tracks, but never collects. In Taupia's words Each housemate holds a percentage of the bill and the percentages total 100%. Supplier accounts default to one named account holder. Taupia can send a request to add further people, but the supplier decides whether to add them. Taupia records and flags outstanding shares, sends reminders and does not move money. It does not change the named holder's supplier obligation. More on this How Taupia works |
| What is organised | Huddle The services you pick, bundled into one plan, across three energy plans.Their exact words Huddle offers electricity, gas, water, broadband and a TV Licence, picked service by service and bundled into one plan, and says it handles setup, suppliers and support. Its energy plans run from Huddle Lite, a lower payment for lower-usage households, to Huddle Unlimited. Source huddle.uk.com Checked 13 October 2026 | Taupia Compare energy, broadband and mobile; organise water, council tax and TV Licence. In Taupia's words Taupia compares available energy, broadband and mobile rates, so you can see the provider and price before choosing. Water, council tax and TV Licence sit in the same home view with contracts, tasks and changes, organised rather than market-compared. More on this Suppliers Taupia supports |
| If the house moves or changes | Huddle Leaving early: £30 per service per tenant, £150 per property for energy.Their exact words Cancelling inside the minimum term but after the 14-day cancellation window costs £30 per service per tenant under clause 13.7, and clause 14.7 sets gas and electricity at £150 per property. Cancelling needs at least 30 days' written notice, and each customer on the contract has to request it in writing. Source huddle.uk.com Checked 13 October 2026 | Taupia No Taupia exit fee. Supplier and broadband exit charges can still apply. In Taupia's words There is no Taupia package contract to unwind. Supplier exit fees and any mid-contract broadband charges can still apply, so Taupia flags key contract dates and the changes it reads, and the household can decide in time. |
| When a fixed term ends | Huddle No cancellation fee to switch energy in a fixed term's last 49 days.Their exact words Huddle's help centre says you can switch energy supplier within the last 49 days of a fixed contract without a cancellation fee, and that moving out after the contract ends carries no cancellation fee. If you renew with Huddle at your new home, it waives the fees. Source huddle.uk.com Checked 13 October 2026 | Taupia End dates flagged early, and nothing changes until you approve. In Taupia's words Taupia flags the contract end date before it arrives and compares energy, broadband and mobile against what you pay now, so the house can decide in time. What one Reading house paid direct
Reading Students' Union priced nine unlimited packages in March 2025 for one four-bedroom, four-occupant Reading house covering energy, water and broadband. Reading notes that guidance from Ofgem, the energy regulator, would treat a four-bedroom property as high usage, and on that band the house paid about £281 a month direct against the £408 the packages averaged: a premium of about £127 a month. Reading also ran a medium band, because students are away for long stretches, and there the direct figure is £223. Which one applies depends on how lived-in the house is. It is useful context for a Huddle Unlimited quote, not a price for every household.

Unlimited, with a usage policy Its bill-splitting terms add an unreasonable usage policy for unlimited contracts. Customers must sign up with the right number of bedrooms, and Huddle can backdate extra charges if they did not. Anyone over the policy is warned and offered higher payments, and usage above it is charged when the tenancy ends.

If a housemate never registers Huddle's help centre says registering every tenant is what lets it split payments so everyone only pays their own share, and warns that a housemate who never sets up an account or payment details can leave the rest of the house with shares recalculated to cover that person's costs.

Water admin fee Clause 7.9.4 sets Huddle's administration fee for water at £2.20 per week per house, inside a water charge based on typical local costs and the size of the property. If the water company's bill runs more than 20% above what the plan charges, Huddle may charge the difference.

“Only pay your share, no chasing housemates”
What else it publishes
Once every tenant has registered, yes, by Huddle's own account: its help centre says registration is what lets it split payments so everyone only pays their own share. It also warns that an unregistered housemate can leave the rest with shares recalculated to cover that person's costs, and clause 3.6 of its terms makes whoever submits the Order responsible for all of it until the others accept.

06Who Huddle suits, and who Taupia suits
You want one monthly share each and no supplier accounts to open: Huddle bundles the services you pick into one plan and says it handles setup, suppliers and support.
You want unlimited energy and can live with a usage policy around it: Huddle Unlimited exists, with its unreasonable usage terms set out in clause 25 of the bill-splitting terms.
You expect to move again with the same provider: Huddle's help centre says renewing your contract at your new home waives your cancellation fees.
You want each bill to be the supplier's own rate on the house's real usage, rather than a forecast payment that can rise partway through the contract.
You want to choose the energy supplier: Taupia compares 19 suppliers covering around 90% of the GB market and recommends one with its reasons, where Huddle's energy comes from Tru Energy.
The house wants to hold the division itself: each member gets a percentage that totals 100%, and the house edits it when a room empties or fills.
07Taupia's own limitations
Taupia does not bundle your payment. It helps you set up directly with each provider, then splits and manages it all with the prices in view, which is why it costs you nothing. Here is what that route does not give you.
Taupia does not bundle your bills into one fixed monthly amount. You pay each provider its own published rate, so a heavy month costs more and a quiet one costs less. It only compares energy, broadband and mobile, and does not compare or switch water, insurance, credit, savings or mortgages.
A provider pays Taupia commission when a switch completes. On energy and gas the rate is the same whichever supplier you pick, so an energy recommendation does not pay Taupia more one way or the other. Broadband and mobile rates vary a little. The full list it recommends from is the suppliers Taupia supports, published on its supported suppliers page.
08Huddle questions answered
Tru Energy Limited, company number 09735909. Huddle's domestic energy terms say Huddle operates under a white label agreement with Tru Energy as the licensed supplier, and that the terms govern Tru Energy's supply of energy to you. Its help centre calls Tru Energy its underlying direct supplier and gives a Tru Energy email address for out-of-hours emergencies.
Nothing for utilities inside the 14-day cooling-off period, though live broadband or a TV Licence already bought can still cost. After that, cancelling inside the minimum term costs £30 per service per tenant under clause 13.7, and clause 14.7 sets gas and electricity at £150 per property. Every customer has to request the cancellation in writing, with 30 days' notice.
It comes with a usage policy. Huddle's bill-splitting terms set an unreasonable usage policy for unlimited contracts, measured against typical consumption for a property's size. Customers over it are warned and offered higher payments, and any usage above it is charged when the tenancy ends. Signing up with the wrong number of bedrooms lets Huddle backdate extra charges.
09Deciding between Huddle and Taupia
Huddle trades a forecast monthly share for not opening supplier accounts. Weigh that against payments that can rise with usage and £30 per service per tenant to leave early, then price the same services direct.
