How do I move Sky when I move house?

Short answer

Tell Sky two to four weeks before you move, with the new address and postcode, so it can check what it can supply there. One booking moves all your Sky services. A home move costs £50, or nothing for Sky VIP customers, and you can change your broadband package as part of the move.

If Sky is not available at the new address, Sky says you can cancel when you move with no exit fees.

Sky moves broadband, TV and its other services to a new address in one booking. This is what Sky asks for, what it charges, what happens if it cannot supply your new home, and when switching makes more sense.

How do I tell Sky I am moving house?

Through Sky's moving home page, two to four weeks before you move.

  • Sky asks you to get in touch two to four weeks before you move, so it can get your services ready for moving day.
  • Have the new address and postcode to hand: Sky first checks whether it is available there and tells you what you can get.
  • One home move booking moves all your Sky services at once, so broadband, TV and a Sky landline go together.
  • You can upgrade or downgrade your broadband package as part of the move.

Is moving home with Sky free?

Only for Sky VIP customers. Everyone else pays £50.

  • Sky's moving home page says a home move is free if you are a Sky VIP customer, and costs £50 if you are not.
  • If you are joining Sky from another provider at the new home, Sky says you may have to pay your old provider an exit or termination fee.
  • For people switching to it, Sky's page says they can claim up to £200 towards leaving fees. Check the current terms on Sky's page before you rely on it.

What if Sky is not available at my new address?

Sky says you can cancel when you move, with no exit fees.

  • Check the new postcode before you book: Sky tells you whether it is available there and what you can get.
  • If it is not available, Sky's moving home page says you will be able to cancel when you move with no exit fees.
  • Ofcom suggests checking broadband and mobile coverage at the new property before you move, with its coverage checker.
  • If you change provider, Ofcom says you need to cancel your current contract and arrange a start date for the new service in time for the move.

Should I take Sky with me or switch provider?

Take Sky if you want the same services. Compare first if your contract has ended or Sky cannot supply the new home.

  • Taking Sky with you keeps your services together in one booking, for £50 unless you are a Sky VIP.
  • If your minimum term has ended, compare the deals for the new address before you book the move: moving is a natural point to check you are not overpaying.
  • If you are still in your minimum term and Sky can supply the new home, leaving early can mean an early termination charge under your contract. Check it before you switch.
  • Whichever you choose, Ofcom's advice is the same: check what is available at the new address first.
