Where does Taupia fit when I move?

  • For the bills part of the move, the address block above lists your new home's council tax band and charge, its water company, who supplies the energy and broadband deals. It covers England, Scotland and Wales; in Scotland it shows the council rather than the band.
  • Taupia compares energy, broadband and mobile deals and switches once your household approves. Nothing changes without your approval.
  • Taupia does not set up council tax or switch water, and it does not redirect post: apply with Royal Mail or at a Post Office.
  • Taupia is free to use.

Royal Mail redirection: common questions

How much is Royal Mail redirection for 12 months?

£95 for the first person when the new address is in the UK, plus £13.50 for each extra person, according to the Post Office's price table. Children under 16 are free, and Royal Mail has a cheaper concession price if you get Universal Credit or Pension Credit.

Can I redirect my mail for free?

Not usually. Redirection costs from £45 for three months, but Royal Mail charges nothing for children under 16 and has a concessionary price if you get Universal Credit or Pension Credit. The free alternative is telling each sender your new address yourself, starting with your bank, council and suppliers.

How long before moving can I set up redirection?

The Post Office says you can apply as soon as six months before you move, and up to six months after you have moved. After the move you may be asked extra security questions, especially if your payment card is registered to the new address.

Does redirected post arrive more slowly?

It can. Royal Mail says redirected mail is processed as Second Class, so letters sent first class can take longer to reach you while redirection is in place. Telling important senders your new address directly avoids the delay and lets you end the redirection sooner.

Can I redirect post for everyone in the house?

Yes. The Post Office says you can redirect as many people's post as live at the address, paying for each extra person, while children under 16 are free. For more than eight people, apply in a Post Office branch, which will help you with the form.
