MoneySuperMarket vs Taupia

MoneySuperMarket gives information rather than recommendations. Taupia shows the full list, recommends one and shows why, after asking a few questions about how your household lives.

01How MoneySuperMarket works, and what Taupia does

What are you actually buying from MoneySuperMarket?

MoneySuperMarket is a comparison site, not a provider, and it states the limit itself: it gives information, not recommendations or financial advice. It also says it only shows results from partner providers. A list of deals leaves the rest of running a home where it was. Taupia sits between that and a bills package, which folds several bills into one amount.

Taupia gives you the information and the recommendation. It shows the full list of what providers are offering, then recommends one from it and shows why it picked that one, having asked a few questions first so the recommendation fits how your household actually lives rather than how the industry words things. The full list stays there to check the pick against.

Two ways in. Give Taupia your address and provider quotes come back in about two minutes. Or upload the bills you have: AI agents pull the tariff, unit rate, usage, contract end date and any exit fee off them, while other agents watch the market against what you pay now. Only the upload route tells Taupia your current cost, so only there can it say a deal beats it, or that none does. It carries out the switch once you approve it.

Taupia compares energy, broadband and mobile only, and keeps contracts, changes, setup tasks, each bill split across the house on percentages you set, and provider messages sent to TaupiaMail or explicitly forwarded there together. TaupiaMail is a Taupia email address you give your providers, where AI agents read what arrives and pull out price changes, contract end dates and anything needing a decision. Water, council tax and TV Licence sit in the same view, with no market to compare.

Who pays whom

With MoneySuperMarket Your house Suppliers you pay the supplier MoneySuperMarket commission on a completed switch With Taupia Your house Suppliers you pay the supplier Taupia commission on a completed switch
The two rows are the same shape. Neither MoneySuperMarket nor Taupia holds your account or takes any part of your payment, and both are paid by the provider. What differs is what happens after the comparison: Taupia reads your bills, watches the market against what you pay now, and keeps contracts, changes and provider messages sent to TaupiaMail together.

02Supplier account setup

Taupia splits every bill automatically, and never moves the money.

A comparison ends when the switch does. If you share the home, the bill it produces still has to be divided, chased and settled every month. Here is what Taupia does with that, and where it stops.

01

Every bill split automatically

Splitwise style, and not forced into an equal share. Each housemate holds a percentage of a bill, the percentages total 100%, and each share is worked out from the real bill amount, so it updates when the bill does.

02

Taupia does the chasing

So nobody in the house has to be the one who asks. Each housemate repays the person the bill is in the name of directly, outside Taupia, and the share reads as settled once it has been repaid. Taupia sends reminders while a share is outstanding, and everyone sees the same shares and who has settled.

03

One housemate is the person the supplier bills

A utility account is usually opened in one person's name. That one named account holder is who the supplier bills, and the obligation to the supplier stays theirs whoever in the house has paid their share. Taupia can send a request to add further people to the account, but the supplier decides. If a share is late, Taupia flags it and sends reminders. It never moves money between housemates, and nothing it records changes what the named holder owes the supplier.

03MoneySuperMarket ownership, funding and disclosures

What does MoneySuperMarket publish, and what does it not?

  1. Account model

A price comparison site, not a provider. In its own words: we don't give recommendations or financial advice, but we give you clear information so you can choose financial products that suit your circumstances.

  2. Part of MONY Group

MoneySuperMarket says it is part of MONY Group, alongside MoneySavingExpert, Quidco, TravelSupermarket, Icelolly and Decision Tech. It describes Decision Tech as one of the UK's leading price comparison software platforms and MoneySavingExpert as the UK's most trusted consumer finance website.

  3. Who it compares

Hundreds of companies, and no list of them. MoneySuperMarket says it works with hundreds of companies and that its goal is to search deals from as wide a range as possible, but that it only shows results from its partner providers. The list it publishes alongside that sentence is of the products it compares, not of the providers behind them.

3 more from MoneySuperMarket's own site, each with its source
  1. Its price promise, and what it covers If you find the same deal on the same day at a cheaper price somewhere else, MoneySuperMarket says it will refund the difference and give you a gift card worth up to £20. Its own footnote lists the products included: car, home, pet, van and annual travel insurance, broadband and mobile phone deals. Energy is not among them.

  2. Who pays whom Free for the person comparing, and paid for by the companies it works with. MoneySuperMarket says its comparison service is free and always will be, that it gets paid in different ways depending on the type of product or service you buy through it, and that the payment has no bearing on the information provided.

Does MoneySuperMarket's price promise cover your energy deal?

Claim check

MoneySuperMarket says

“Our Price Promise is a guarantee that we'll help you find the best deal possible.”

What else it publishes

A refund promise, scoped on the same page. It pays out only where the same provider is cheaper elsewhere on the same day, so a better deal from a different provider is outside it. The published product list runs to car, home, van, pet and travel insurance, broadband and mobile phones. Energy is not on it.

05Who MoneySuperMarket suits, and who Taupia suits

When is MoneySuperMarket the better answer?

Choose MoneySuperMarket if

  • Your next decision is a mortgage, a loan or a credit card. MoneySuperMarket compares all three; Taupia has no view of any of them.

  • Several unrelated things need pricing in one sitting: car insurance, a credit card and broadband on the same afternoon.

  • You would rather nobody narrowed it for you at all. MoneySuperMarket is explicit that it gives information rather than recommendations, and leaves the whole choice where it found it.

Choose Taupia if

  • You want the list and a recommendation from it, with the reasoning shown. Upload a bill and Taupia's AI agents pull out the tariff, unit rate, usage and any exit fee, then name the deal that beats what you pay now, or tell you when none does.

  • You do not want a renewal or bill rise to become another task. Taupia tracks the contract, flags changes and keeps provider messages sent to TaupiaMail or explicitly forwarded there with the bill and contract context the AI agent uses to explain them.

  • You are moving into a shared home with no bills yet. Give Taupia your address for provider quotes in about two minutes, and every bill after that is divided on percentages the house sets, with everyone seeing the same shares and who has settled.

06Taupia's own limitations

What do you give up by choosing Taupia?

Taupia does not bundle your payment. It helps you set up directly with each provider, then splits and manages it all with the prices in view, which is why it costs you nothing. Here is what that route does not give you.

  1. Taupia only compares energy, broadband and mobile. It does not compare or switch water, insurance, credit, savings or mortgages.

  2. A provider pays Taupia commission when a switch completes. On energy and gas the rate is the same whichever supplier you pick, so an energy recommendation does not pay Taupia more one way or the other. Broadband and mobile rates vary a little. The full list it recommends from is the suppliers Taupia supports, published on its supported suppliers page.

How Taupia works

07MoneySuperMarket questions answered

What else should you check before signing?

What happens when nothing beats what your house already pays?

Then nothing should move, and Taupia says so. Because you uploaded a bill it knows what you pay now, so it can hold the whole list against that figure and tell you none of it wins. You still see the list. There is no recommendation to approve and no switch to complete, and your bill and contract stay together so you can decide when to look again.

What are the alternatives to MoneySuperMarket?

Uswitch and Compare the Market are the other large UK comparison sites. Worth knowing if you plan to cross-check: MoneySuperMarket's own about page lists MoneySavingExpert, Quidco and TravelSupermarket as sister brands in MONY Group. Taupia compares energy, broadband and mobile, shows the full list and recommends one from it with the reasons, and keeps the home admin around those bills organised afterwards.

Can you use MoneySuperMarket and Taupia together?

Yes, and the overlap is small. MoneySuperMarket compares car, van, home, business, life, health, travel and pet insurance, credit cards, loans, savings and mortgages, none of which Taupia can see. The two only meet on energy, broadband and mobile. A household can reasonably run the money products through the comparison site and hand those three bills to Taupia.

How much work is running those three bills yourselves, and how long does it take?

Taupia estimates about thirty minutes of setup admin for a household opening every account unaided. An energy switch then runs to Ofgem's standard of up to five working days, while broadband and mobile keep their own timings. Taupia reads the tariff, usage and any exit fee off a bill you upload, or quotes providers from your address when you have no bill yet. You approve the switch and Taupia handles the rest.
